Pergola & Patio Inspiration

Our backyard has a concrete patio, but I'm trying to find ways to make it more intimate and cozy.  I've mentioned before that I would like our garden to feel more lush and green, but also give us more privacy.  Right now our patio is right out in the open, and although I love being able to see such a wonderful 180 degree view of the Puget Sound, I would like to add a little intimacy to our patio. As a reminder, this is what we're working with now:

These are a few inspiration photos I've found that I think would look great in our patio space. The first project I discovered is a before and after photo of a patio pergola. This easy DIY idea is just adding the draped canvas and some mood lighting. These are via Remodelaholic:

Here is another great, similar idea via Outdoor Rooms:

Lastly, loving this hammock that is incorporated into the design, via Remodelista:

PSST - Have you discovered Pinterest yet? I am in love. It's an easy way to "pin" your favorite photos you find on the internet, and it saves not only the photo but the link where you found it. You can also search for other photos to repin. It's like a huge, categorized inspiration board, but it keeps track of all your sources for you. Check out my pins here.

  3. I've been spotting so many great patio and pergola ideas on Pinterest... I can lose hours browsing! I think you need something to lounge on/in on your patio area (like that hammock!)... so you can take a little nap with the cool breeze off of the water after working in your garden!

  4. Great blog. I think, Pergolas are a wonderful way to add architecture to your backyard while offering protection from the sun. Building your own is not very complicated and is a great project for a moderately experienced woodworker.

  5. Those are some awesome patios and pergolas. The cot by the creeping vines is a nice touch. The lights hanging on the pergola where the people are sitting at the table is also creative decoration. apollopatios.com.au
